"In 2008, pneumonia and influenza yielded the eighth leading cause of death among North Carolinians, causing approximately 1,750 deaths. Individuals aged more than 65 years, those with chronic health conditions, pregnant women, and young children are at higher risk of developing complications such as pneumonia from the flu." - North Carolina Institute of Medicine.
