Data Notes

This measure is derived from data collected by the National Immunization Survey (NIS). The NIS is conducted annually by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to monitor childhood immunization coverage.  In 2007 and 2008, the recommended series used was 4:3:1:3:3:1 [4 diphtheria and tetanus toxoids and acellular pertussis vaccine (DTaP), 3 poliovirus vaccine (polio), 1 measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine (MMR), 3 Haemophilus influenzae type b vaccine (Hib), 3 hepatitis B vaccine (Hep B), 1 Varicella]. In 2009, 4:3:1:3:3:1-S is used as the recommended series because it takes into account the differences in the brand of Hib vaccine used as well as the required suspension of the Hib booster dose. In 2010, 4:3:1:3:3:1-PS is used as the recommended series because it takes into account the differences in the brand of Hib vaccine used as well as the required suspension of the Hib booster dose. The HNC 2020 target, which is the target to be reached by 2020, is repeated in the data table for graphing purposes.
