Data Notes

This measure is based on data from the North Carolina Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (NC BRFSS), a random-digit dial telephone survey. BRFSS data are representative of the total non-institutionalized N.C. population aged 18 years and older living in households with a telephone.

Definition

Diabetes prevalence estimates are based on survey responses to the question: "Have you ever been told by a doctor that you have diabetes?" The measure represents the percent of adult respondents who responded "
"yes" to the question.

How We Calculated the Rates

Numerator: Number of adults aged 18 years and older who reported they had been told that they have diabetes
Denominator: Number of adults aged 18 years and older responding to the BRFSS survey
