Data Notes

This measure is based on emergency department (ED) visit data collected by the North Carolina Disease Event Tracking and Epidemiologic Collection Tool (NC DETECT). NC DETECT collects ED data from emergency departments across North Carolina. Visits were coded under the 9th revision of the International Classification of Diseases, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM).  The HNC 2020 target, which is the target to be reached by 2020, is repeated in the data table for graphing purposes.

Definition

Includes all emergency department visits where a mental health related diagnosis was coded as the principal diagnosis in a child or adult.

Denominator:	Total resident population
