Deaths were coded under the 10th revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD). Age-adjusted death rates were calculated using the direct method and the projected United States 2000 population as the standard.

Definition

Septicemia deaths include all resident deaths where septicemia was coded as the underlying (primary) cause of death.

Numerator: Number of Septicemia deaths (ICD-10: A40-A41)
Denominator: Total resident population
